Smart Systems
Smart Systems combine cognitive functions with sensing, actuation, data communication and energy management in an integrated way. Enabling principles are: nanoelectronics, micro-electro-mechanics, magnetism, photonics, chemistry, radiation. A knowledge base separates Smart Systems from systems which are purely reactive. The provision of a safe and reliable autonomous operation under all relevant circumstances is a necessary (or intrinsic) condition for smartness.
Moreover, Smart Systems oftentimes are integrated with the (natural, built and social) environment, networks for power and data, other smart systems and the human. Provision (and use) of cognitive support to (and from) its surroundings is a sufficient (or extrinsic) condition
for smartness of a system.
Purpose of the Trademark
To increase the consciousness and the perceived technological and economic value of products and research outputs characterised by Smart Systems Integration in the entire ecosystem.
Use of the Trademark
EPoSS will grant the license to use the Trademark only with the scope of distinguishing goods according to the Regulation and to the License Agreement signed with EPoSS.
Obligations
The license will allow persons entrusted by EPoSS to perform all necessary checks to ensure the existence and maintenance of the conditions and will provide any information needed to prove compliance with the requirements.
